Anjan Dasgupta is a Finance and Banking expert now heading ASA International India Microfinance Limited as Managing Director. Before joining ASA International, he successfully managed a number of large co-operative banks, As Managing Director of an Urban Cooperative Bank in Sikkim, he innovated banking to include Micro-finance, livelihood development schemes and financial inclusion. The projects were identified as model schemes by the Reserve Bank of India and highlighted in the report of RBI’s committee for financial inclusion in the North East. The schemes were recommended by RBI to other banks for replication. He also has a successful record of transforming a start-up Society in Bihar engaged in Microfinance into a NBFC. During one year he was able to help the start-up scale-up and achieve the status of largest “Bihar State Grown” MFI. In addition, he brought international equity investment to invest in this start-up MFI at a sizable premium.

Mr. Hossain has a MBA in Finance, a Master of Public Affairs in Governance & Public Policy from the University of Dhaka and has been awarded the Cum laude distinction for his undergraduate degree in Computer Science. He is also an alumni of Boulder Institute of Microfinance. With a proven track-record of working in micro, small and medium financial services for over a decade, his core skills involve financial product and process re-engineering with disruptive technologies. Mr. Hossain has also been a part of numerous training programmes across Asia, Africa and Europe, having served as a Joint Director for ASA International in Bangladesh, Senior General Manager for SAJIDA Foundation, Head of Microfinance for BRAC Tanzania Finance Ltd and as a Board Member for the Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions.

Mr. Chakravarty is responsible for management of finance and accounts, interactions with bankers and rating agencies, financial planning, sourcing, deployment, internal controls, etc. He is a Chartered Accountant and ICWA (Institute of Cost and Management Accountants). With more than 20 years of professional experience in industry, Mr. Chakravarty has worked across various organizations ranging from multinationals, start-ups, Indian conglomerates, in both service and manufacturing sector. He worked in various finance leadership roles at companies such as HCL Technologies, Reliance Entertainment (part of Reliance Group), and SREI Group. His last stint, before joining ASA India, was at Capgemini, where he worked as a Finance Controller for one of the sub-sectors of its North America entity. Mr. Chakravarty also prepares and presents loan proposals to banks. His core competencies revolve around accounts, business finance, cost analysis, budgetary control and different statutory matters.

Saibal Mitra

Mr. Mitra supervises the management of funds and interactions with the lenders besides undertaking initiatives on matters of insurance and advocating banking solutions. With an engineering background from Jadavpur University, Mr. Mitra obtained an MBA from IISWBM (Calcutta University) before completing an Executive Program in Social Entrepreneurship (EPSE) from Stanford University (Graduate School of Business). Demonstrating exceptional versatility throughout his career, he has enjoyed success as a project engineer, consultant and banker. Following his MBA, Mr. Mitra has gathered more than two decades of work experience, during which he spent 15 years in the ME and SME segments in banking. Previously, Mr. Mitra was employed at Standard Chartered Bank where he served in different capacities as Senior Credit Manager, Regional Credit Manager, as well as Head of Credit (SME) in Bangladesh. Prior to that, he had worked for HDFC Bank, Global Trust Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which saw him engaged in international assignments for ABD, DfID, OECD and the Government of Bhutan, alongside catering to national clients.

Mr. Paul has completed his Bachelor’s in Commerce and also is a qualified Cost & Management Accountant with Associate Membership with the ‘Institute for Cost and Management Accountants of India as well as being a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certified in the USA. Mr. Paul operates and oversees the banking operations and interactions with lenders and manages procedures for MFI Grading and Credit Rating. He has 11 years of experience in the microfinance sector - out of which 8 at ASA International India, and has also served 11 years in the banking industry.

Mr. Acharya is responsible for new technologies and systems as the Chief Technology Officer. Having completed his Master’s in Computer Application, he is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCT- Global Certification) with more than ten years of experience in working for ASA International India, a total of twelve years of experience in the microfinance industry as well as two years of relevant expertise in other corporate sectors.

Mr. Mondal is responsible for the emerging technologies and digital trends in consonance with the company’s IT vision and roadmap. A graduate of B.Com (Hons.) from Calcutta University, he is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist and also has an Intel Certificate of Recognition from Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd. Previously, Mr. Mondal has served as Senior System Engineer at Cyber Works (HP authorized service provider), as Supervisor of Computer Operations at ABIS Software Pvt. Ltd. as well as an IT expert at the Indian Institute of Hardware Technology, Kolkata.

Ms. Chatterjee is concerned with meeting the social missions and objectives of the organization, initiating and maintaining oversight over Corporate Social Responsibility Activities, and monitoring and evaluating client satisfaction metrics. She holds an MBA in Rural Development and Management and completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management. With more than 12 years of experience in the development sector under her belt- including stints with three United Nations agencies and JA-PAL South Asia (MIT’s Economics Research laboratory)- Ms. Chatterjee has worked across different states in India exhibiting the requisite versatility in handling development grants for reputed international funding agencies.

Ms. Zaheer joined ASA International India in April 2018 as Company Secretary and Legal Head and is tasked with the secretarial, legal, and regulatory compliance applicable to the organization. Equipped with more than five years of work experience, Ms. Zaheer has worked with Arohan Financial Services Ltd in the capacity of Assistant Company Secretary. A member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, she is a commerce graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB).

Mr. Maji supervises audit planning and execution, compliance and risk-based internal audits. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary with an Honours degree in Commerce from Calcutta University. Mr. Maji also holds a Diploma in Information System Audit as well as Forensic Accounting & Fraud Detection from ICAI. He has also completed a certificate course on foundation of Financial Risk by Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). He served as Senior Manager in the Internal Audit Team for SREI Equipment Finance Limited (NBFC) after working as Zonal Manager for the Special Investigations Unit at ICICI Bank Ltd. In addition, Mr. Maji functioned in the role of Audit Manager for VPC & Associates, an accountant firm.

Mr. Brouwer co-founded ASA International in 2007 and has since been its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. He also is Director of Catalyst Micro finance Investors, Catalyst Microfinance Investment Company, and CMIMC, all of which entities he co-founded in 2006. Prior to 2007, he had a distinguished career in investment banking spanning over 20 years. He held senior positions at PaineWebber, Merrill Lynch and Sequoia, an independent corporate finance advisory and private equity firm, which he founded in 2002. He is also non-executive Chairman of CarbonX.

Mr. Haque is Chief Operating Officer of ASA International. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Science from the University of Dhaka and has functioned as team leader for UNDP/MSP in Nigeria and the Philippines, for Kashf Foundation and Bank of Kaiber in Pakistan, besides being a consultant for Save the Children (USA) in Jordan. Mr. Haque is specialist in products design, system development related to operations, MIS, market feasibility study, institutional capacity building, trainers, etc.,

Mr. Rashid is the Executive Director (Operation and Management) of ASA International. has a Master’s degree in Science from Dhaka University and comes with 25 years of experience and progressive responsibility in planning, management and implementation of microfinance programs in competitive and challenging operating environments.

Mohammed Azim Hussain

Mr. Hussain is the Director of Investment and Treasury at ASA International. With a Master’s degree from the University of Dhaka and a Diploma in Project Management from Denmark, Mr. Hussain has served in the capacity of a consultant for various MFIs across countries like Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, the Philippines, Yemen, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Joining ASA-Bangladesh in 1984, he took over as Director of Finance and MIS in 1992, gathering vast experience in product development and lending methodology in the microfinance sector as well as financial management, accounting system design, business planning, financial forecasting, and performance analysis. Mr. Hussain is also in charge of ASA NGO Partnership Build-Up Program, where small NGOs/MFIs receive financial and technical support form ASA.

Ashim Kumar Roy

Having obtained his MSc in Applied Mathematics from Dhaka University, Mr. Roy served in Agrani Bank as Probationary Officer from 1973 to 1976. After qualifying for the Bangladesh Civil Services (BCS), he joined Taxation Cadre in 1977 where he worked as Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and Commissioner of Taxes. In 2003, Mr. Roy joined as a member (Taxes) of the National Board of Revenue (the highest body for making tax policy in Bangladesh). Following retirement in 2004, he established a tax consultancy firm offering his services as tax advisor of different financial institutions, including banks, NGOs, insurance companies and big business houses. Mr. Roy is an independent director for ASAI India.

Completing her Master’s in Psychology from Delhi University and M.Ed. from Jammu University, Ms. Guha joined as Probationary Officer for State Bank of India in 1987. Two decades later in 2007, she was awarded as Best Manager for being one of the best performers in the Bengal Circle. Ms. Guha was the Chairman of the Committee on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace for the entire Bengal Circle of State Bank of India between 2007 and 2012. She retired as Assistant General Manager in 2013. Ms. Guha is an independent director for ASAI India

Ashish Singh

Mr. Singh holds a B.E. degree in Electronics from Mumbai University as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Systems, Marketing from IIM, Lucknow. Also possessing an MBA, he is the Executive Vice President and part of the leadership team of Bharat Banking, the rural banking wing of IDFC Bank. Mr. Singh holds dual responsibility for the business P&L delivery through the branch network and strategic alliances alongside his role of Product Head for the asset business of Bharat Bank. With over 17 years of experience across the retail banking and financial services sector, Mr. Singh has also been associated with key organizations like Fullerton India and ICICI Bank Ltd.

Md. Shafiqual Haque Choudhury co-founded ASAI International in 2007 and has been its Chairman since. In 1978, he founded ASA NGO Bangladesh and remains President of the organisation. He has over 38 years of experience in the microfinance industry and has held numerous senior committee or advisory positions including in the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh in 2007 and at several international microfinance organisations including CGAP-World Bank and UNDP Microstart. He is also a Managing Director of Catalyst Microfinance Investment Company, which he co-founded in 2006.
